Last night’s episode of RAW ended in controversy when Mr. McMahon came out and announced that not only was Becky Lynch suspended for the next 60 days, but she was being replaced in the WrestleMania main event by longtime rival Charlotte Flair.
Earlier in the show Becky had been given an ultimatum: apologize to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for her actions the week prior or forfeit her match against Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania she earned by winning the Royal Rumble. After THREE HOURS of deliberation, in which everyone from mentor Finn Balor to sh*t-stirrer Alexa Bliss weighed on what she should do, Becky decided to quickly apologize, getting her suspension lifted and making her WrestleMania main event a go…until the head of the McMahon family, the true Authority in WWE, decided otherwise.
A lot of people clowned on WWE for this but I dig the story they’re telling; it gives Charlotte a ton of heat and also plays into the fans’ very justified fear they’re going to make Ronda/Becky into a triple threat match. I’m pretty sure WWE knows better and will keep it Becky/Ronda, with Becky fighting her way back into the spot closer to WrestleMania, but I don’t blame people for thinking otherwise. Either way this good fodder for a Charlotte promo tonight on SmackDown and I hope we get it.
WWE.com reports that ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey will be defending the RAW Women’s Championship against Riott Squad leader Ruby Riott next weekend at Elimination Chamber. A riled up Rousey dispatched Riott’s two partners/friends, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan, in short order last Monday on RAW but Riott managed to escape a similar fate…that is, until next Sunday. Rousey is currently slated to defend the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania against Royal Rumble winner Becky Lynch, but that’s currently up in the air storyline-wise due to Lynch’s ‘suspension’ that began on Monday.
Elimination Chamber takes place on February 17th live from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX and airing on the WWE Network.
